Three tactical tweaks Manchester United should make! After an impressive preseason, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side started the season off with a blast - beating Frank Lampard’s Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford. The next two games for Man United, Wolves & Crystal Palace, the reds dropped five points but still looked good in parts of both games, especially against Nuno Espirito Santo's Wolves side at the Molineux Stadium in the 1-1 draw United. So What are the tactical tweaks the Norweigan manager could make?

The first tweak I would make to this is not in the structure, but personal. Aaron Wan-Bisaka has had a fine start to his Man Utd career. He has excelled in a defensive sense winning 16 out of his 19 tackles in the Premier League this season - adding much needed aggression to United’s defensive third. His ability to nullify the opponent’s left winger has been elite, but Wan-Bissaka has frequently found himself in the wide right position in the final third as seen by the stats. Wan-Bissaka has completed more passes in the final third than any other Manchester United player - this isn’t necessarily a problem but you would rather a more natural attacking player on the ball more in that area.
That was the first tweak, United should focus on getting their wingers into the wide positions in the 3-2-5 shape. Playing the 3-2-5 shape in transition, would be the best for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, due to the ability of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, Daniel James, Tahith Chong and Diogo Dalot who could all play wide - you would expect United to get crosses into the box after the full back has been beat.
The Red Devils missed a final ball for big parts of the game against Crystal Palace. Man United could up their game in that area of the pitch by pushing Paul Pogba further up the pitch - in the ten role position, this could work if Fred is to be brought in alongside Scott Mctominay and we could see a double pivot that gives the freedom for the French international to create. Alternatively we could see Solskjaer bring in Angel Gomes, the Man United youngster could provide the missing link in the final-third for the Reds. This means Solskjaer could still have Paul Pogba in a deeper role, who can find runners from deep and create chances from there too, his assists in the 4-0 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford for Daniel James & Marcus Rashford were a prime example of the ability to find those passes from deep or drive the ball forward, and create opportunities for Manchester United.
