The January transfer window isn’t known for the big name signings, we may have seen Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool splash the cash on Virgil van Dijk in January 2018 - but the big £75 Million fee was justified with an instant impact, helping his side to the Champions League final five months later in Kiev. This brings us to talk about the first name, Jadon Sancho. The difference in making a deal like the one for Van Dijk, was the dutchman played for Southampton at the time who are at best a mid-table Premier League club, whereas Jadon Sancho would be difficult to get over the line since his side Borussia Dortmund are in the knockout stages of the Champions League. The relationship between BVB and Jadon Sancho has been questioned recently, but the young England international still performed brilliantly this season. If Manchester United are to see any chance of signing the young prodigy in January we can certainly see the red devils making a bid to bring him to Old Trafford.

Erling Braut Haaland will without a doubt be in demand over the January transfer window. The young Norweigen star scored an incredible eight goals in the knockout stages of the Champions League, even finding the back of the net at Anfield against the European Champions Liverpool. But with his side RB Salzburg crashing out at the Champions League group stages, we could see the teenager move before the summer transfer window. Man Utd will have to compete with sides like Juventus, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund - while all three could offer Champions League football, the main concern for the youngster is gaurtneeting a starting role and only BVB seem the likely team alongside United to offer that - Maurizio Sarri’s Juventus have the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Gonzalo Higuain firing, whilst Julain Naggelsmann’s RB Leipzig have a very much inform Timo Werner leading the line. So Man United have a decent chance of convincing the Norweigen youngster joining, but dealing with someone like Mino Riola will always be a difficult task, as seen with the likes of Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku.

So there’s a big chance Man Utd will struggle to land the bigger deals in January, but this doesn’t mean the door will be shut on any signings. You can see Alexander Isak and David Neres as the cheaper alternatives to Jadon Sancho and Erling Braut Haaland. Ajax starlet David Neres isn’t on Jadon Sancho’s level - that’s for sure however given the emergence of Mason Greenwood and his ability to play as an inside forward on that right flank Man Utd might want to bring somebody in for a smaller price and Neres, who was directly involved in 16 Eredivisie goals and impressed in the Champions League last season - may make a bit more sense. A cheaper alternative for Håland would be Alexander Isak. The former Dortmund striker scored more goals in his first 12 Eredivisie games (12) than any other foreign striker in the competition’s history in 18/19 - which is unbelievable when you consider that the likes of Ronaldo, Romario and Zlatan Ibrahaimovic have played in that league!
