This figure’s made the Portuguese midfielder become the fourth most expensive contract in Old Trafford history, only inferior to Paul Pogba, Harry Maguire and Romelu Lukaku. The investment showed the great expectations of United and Solskjaer. The Norwegian manager finally got the player that he had requested last summer.
Fernandes is a flexible attack player. In two and a half years at Sporting Lisbon, the 25-year-old midfielder scored 39 goals and contributed 28 assists in the Portuguese league. Total goals in all competitions, Fernandes has scored 64 goals in 137 appearances for Sporting. That's a very impressive number for a player who plays in the midfield position.
