As Manchester United return to action in the UEFA Champions League against Atletico Madrid, join me as I make the case for Manchester United pulling out a great cup run and lifting the famous trophy in St Petersburg. Far worse teams having worse seasons than Ralf Rangnick’s reds have gone on to win the competition so why not Man Utd in the 21/22 season?

With a plethora of attacking talent, Manchester United, if they get it right, have the players to blow teams away. At the centre of everything is Bruno Fernandes, who’s registered more assists (5) than anyone else in the competition this season. His ability to create something out of nothing allows him to frequently pull United out of danger and if Rangnick can continue to get the best out of him alongside Paul Pogba, chances won’t be a problem.

Rangnick himself is doing an underrated job. Since his first game in charge only Manchester City have picked up more Premier League points than Rangnick’s Man Utd. He’s improving the system and the players with every game, with Jadon Sancho the best example. 3 goal involvements in his last 3 games, we’re starting to see the Sancho that United signed at Old Trafford. Rangnick also took his Schalke side to the Champions League semi finals in 2011 so he’s shown he can overperform in this competition.

And finally, Manchester United have Cristiano Ronaldo, the all time leading scorer in the Champions League. His performance levels rise in the competition and he’s come up clutch time and time again for his clubs, dragging them forward with his goals. If Rangnick can support Ronaldo with his attacking depth, Manchester United could go all the way.
