A battle now between two sides who absurdly did not qualify for the 2016 edition. France and Portugal are two of the main tournament contenders, but one of them won’t make it past the last 16. France probably start as favourites having won Group B, but games of this nature are always on a knife edge.

France make a couple of changes. Blaise Matuidi is still only fit enough for the bench, but N’Golo Kante doesn’t stay in midfield. Instead, he goes to right back, and Adrien Rabiot fills in through the middle. Layvin Kurzawa is also recalled in place of Lucas Digne. Portugal, meanwhile, have rolled the dice with their forwards, opting to bring in Gelson Martins in place of Nani.

France: Lloris, Kante, Koscielny, Umtiti, Digne, Tolisso, Rabiot, Pogba, Griezmann, Giroud, Mbappe

Portugal: Lopes, Semedo, Pepe, Danilo, Ricardo, Carvalho, Bernardo, Joao Mario, Martins, Ronaldo, Bruma
