How Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba Can Lineup for Solskjær’s Man Utd. We’re also going to be looking at transfers, tactics and formations! Bruno Fernandes has had an exceptional start to his Manchester United career since moving to Old Trafford in January and with Paul Pogba coming back from injury - Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side could be a real force in midfield.

Bruno Fernandes & Paul Pogba are both very productive midfielders. In the Premier League this season, the pair directly contribute 10.3 shots to Manchester United’s attack per game. Last season, Pogba was directly involved in over 20 Premier League goals and Bruno’s instant impact since joining, gives Ole Gunnar Solskjaer another productive midfielder with the Portugueese international contributing to an outstanding five goals in just five league appearances.

So let’s get down to how Solskjaer can set both players up on the pitch. The obvious move would be setting up Pogba & Fernandes as two free eight’s ahead of a player like Matic, McTominay or Fred. You would then have two consistent creators in midfield, who can be a threat with their creativity, incredible passing range and both having an impressive record for scoring goals from midfield too. Many would question this and say it would be too attacking, but we’ve already seen Bruno’s incredible workrate in the Premier League and it shows with him winning two tackles per game since joining Sporting in January. Paul Pogba gets a bad rap for “not working hard enough” but that’s simply not true. In the Premier League last season, Pogba made 2.1 tackles per game and this season it went up to 2.4 per game.

The problem with this shape however is in the bigger games where opposition tend to play a 4-3-3, there isn’t a dedicated player to man mark the defensive midfielder, which is crucial to stop their build up play. So for the bigger games, Solskjær could return to either his 3-4-1-2 or the 4-4-2 Diamond. Playing Pogba on the outside and Fernandes at the tip of the diamond or in the back three, Pogba in the pivot with Fred. We’ve seen this season that Bruno has performed well in this position against both Chelsea and Manchester City, but we’ve not seen Pogba play in this role under Solskjær. However under Mourinho, Pogba put in a fantastic display in the 3-1 win against Arsenal from this position and showcased his defensive work and his threat on the counter attack. As highlighted by Lingard’s second goal of the game. Arsenal in possession with Mesut Ozil. He plays through to Sanchez who’s flick is picked up by Marcos Rojo. Nemanja Matić in possession, plays up to Romelu Lukaku who lays it off to Jesse Lingard to carry before playing Pogba wide. Pogba holds off the pressure and picks out Lingard to finish.
