Camavinga signed his first professional contract at 16 years old and one month, he became the youngest ever professional to sign for Rennes, making his first team debut three months later against Angers. His full debut came against Monaco, with Rennes 2-0 at the time of his substitution, with Rennes going on to draw the match 2-2. His first goal came almost a year after signing his professional contract, scoring the only goal of the game away at Lyon.

Let’s take a look at where he’s played at Rennes. he’s mostly played in a 4-3-3 in right central midfield as a deep-lying playmaker. From this position he loves to drop deep to get the ball off the centre backs. Often it involves him dropping behind the defensive midfielder and allowing him to dictate the play - something unusual to see from an 18 year old in his second professional season. He’s very involved in everything Rennes do, getting possession of the centre backs, dictating the play from deep and looking to break the midfield lines with progressive passes.

What makes Camavinga a star in the making is his mobility. He’s always on the move as he looks to pick up space to play in. But as Rennes transition into their attacking 2-3-5, Camavinga looks to play into the feet of the inside forwards or striker as he gets his side going. What’s jarring about the youngster is his style in possession. Because he’s always scanning the pitch he can look uncomfortable or flustered with the ball at his feet but this is far from true.

Camavinga’s very tidy with it which is backed up by his 89% pass accuracy in Ligue 1 which increases to 92% in the Champions League. But he’s not just a passer. Camavinga is a dynamic player that loves a dribble but interestingly, he tends to do it at the right moments.
He only looks to beat a player when there’s space to move into.

So what next for the youngster? He’s been linked to Manchester United, PSG and many of Europe’s elite teams. I think he’d be well suited to a move to the Premier League.

I think a transfer to Manchester United makes a lot of sense. In Solskjaer’s current setup, he’d blend well with Scott McTominay or Paul Pogba in the pivot whilst as he develops he could solely anchor United’s midfield and allow Solskjaer to get both Donny van de Beek and Bruno Fernandes into the same three man midfield.
