Manchester City moved to within two points of Premier League leaders Arsenal with a 1-0 win at Leeds on Saturday.

Without the injured Erling Haaland, Manchester City relied on another goal from recently signed forward Antoine Semenyo to secure a win that keeps their title hopes alive.

Semenyo converted a low cross from close-range for the winner in first-half stoppage time. It was Semenyo's sixth goal in 11 games since joining from Bournemouth in January.

“We just need to control what we can control,” Semenyo said, “win our games and see what happens.”

Arsenal hosts Chelsea on Sunday. Both Arsenal and City have 10 games left and look to be the only contenders for the title.

Haaland was unavailable for the trip to Leeds, his city of birth, after sustaining what City manager Pep Guardiola described as a “little injury” in training on Thursday. It was the first league match the Norway striker has missed all season.

Boos could be heard during a brief break in play to allow players observing Ramadan to break their fast during Saturday's Premier League game.

City had three Muslim players - Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Omar Marmous, in their starting line-up, with Abdukodir Khusanov on the bench.

Guardiola expressed his disappontment. "It's the modern world, right? You all know what happened in the world right now, today, again, right? Respect the religion, respect the diversity, that is the point."

City rode their luck at Elland Road, with Leeds squandering two clear-cut chances in the first half and piling on the pressure late in the game.

Still, City claimed up a fourth straight league win and a sixth in a row in all competitions.

The defeat leaves Leeds six points clear of the relegation zone.
