Post-match press conference with Manchester United manager Michael Carrick after the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park in the Premier League.

Anthony Gordon gave Newcastle the lead from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time, Casemiro equalised moments later, and William Osula hit the late winner for the 10-man hosts after Jacob Ramsey had been sent off before the break.

Carrick says the result hurts and admits United were below the standards they had set in recent games.

He says his side can be a lot better, calls it a lesson they must learn from, and refuses to be drawn too deeply on officiating incidents, choosing instead to focus on what United did wrong and how they must respond on the training ground before the next match.
