The Faroe Islands have picked up a few creditable results in recent years against much bigger countries but up against the European champions, who are involved in a real scrap for top spot in this group, there should only be one outcome and that’s a convincing Portugal win.

Portugal are currently 3 points behind Switzerland with only 4 games to play. The duo meet in Lisbon on the final match-day and such is the abject quality of the rest of this group it will most likely come down to that. It also raises the distinct possibility that the sides could end up level on points, in which case goal difference would determine who progresses to Russia. Portugal are well ahead in those stakes but they’ll be keen to widen their advantage here which suggests they won’t go easy on the Faroes.
