Portugal and Spain played out one of the greatest matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on 15 June 2018 in Sochi. Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 4th minute, but Diego Costa equalized in the 24th. Ronaldo restored Portugal’s lead just before half-time in the 44th minute. Costa struck again in the 55th before Nacho put Spain ahead with a deflected strike in the 58th. With Portugal trailing 3–2, Ronaldo produced a stunning 88th-minute free-kick to complete his hat-trick and secure a 3–3 draw.
