Eusébio da Silva Ferreira, better known as Eusébio, was born on January 25, 1942, in Lourenço Marques, now Maputo, the capital of Mozambique. He is considered one of the greatest football players in the history of Portugal and one of the greatest African players of all time.

Eusébio grew up playing football in the streets of Mozambique and, at the age of 15, was signed by Sporting de Lourenço Marques. Shortly after, he transferred to Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, where he began his professional career.

However, it was at Benfica that Eusébio became a football legend. He was signed by the club in 1960 and helped Benfica win 11 national titles and the UEFA Champions League in 1962. He was also the top scorer in the Champions League twice and the Portuguese league seven times.

Eusébio played for the Portuguese national team 64 times, scoring 41 goals. He led Portugal in the 1966 World Cup in England, taking the team to the semifinals and finishing as the tournament's top scorer with nine goals.

Eusébio won the European Golden Shoe in 1968 and was named the FIFA World Player of the Year in 1965. In 1998, he was voted the second-best Portuguese player of the 20th century, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo.

Off the field, Eusébio was an ambassador for Portuguese football, promoting the sport worldwide. He was also an active advocate for various social causes, including the fight against racism in football.

Eusébio passed away on January 5, 2014, at the age of 71, leaving a lasting legacy in Portuguese and world football. He is remembered as an incredibly skilled player, fast, with a powerful shot, and a true icon of the sport.
