Manchester United wanted to improve their attacking department last year but could only lure a veteran center forward in the form of Edinson Cavani.
In the winter transfer window, the Old Trafford outfit were heavily linked with Pedro Goncalvez, better known as Pote. Jornal de Noticias reported that the Red Devils inquired about signing the Portuguese but Sporting decided against selling their star attacker in the middle of the season.
Now, reports suggest that the Primeira Liga champions fear that they might end up losing their prized asset this summer even if they end up agreeing a new deal with him.
According to Record (via Sport Witness), Sporting’s priority is to hand Pote a new deal to extend his stay with the club but it seems unlikely that they will be able to increase the release clause in his contract i.e. £52million.
