After four days of energy-sapping sunshine, suffocating heat, and humidity in the New York metropolitan area, FC Barcelona was greeted at Monday's training session with noticeably cooler temperatures as the sky broke open and unleashed a torrent of precipitation for the better part of the workout—the first in yet another two-a-day the team will hold, as manager Ernesto Valverde and his staff continue working hard to get the players into prime physical shape for the long season ahead.
But despite the heavy rainfall, it was a welcome change from the sweltering conditions the team had worked out in since arriving here last week.
Before heading out to the pitch at the Red Bull Training Facility, full-back Jordi Alba spoke to reporters who were on hand for the 9.30am workout, the first 15 minutes of which were open to the media.
The only member of the team who didn't take part was the goalkeeper Adrià Ortolá, who sat out with a stomachache.
The squad will be back out on the practice field at 6.30pm this evening as they continue to prepare for two remaining preseason matches in the International Champions Cup. That session will Barça's final workout in the New York area. The team flies to Washington D.C. on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, July 26th, Barça faces Manchester United at FedExField in Landover, Maryland. Then, on Saturday, July 29th, Barça round out the 2017 summer tour in the United States with a match against Real Madrid at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
