In this week’s Transfer Review, we discuss reports that Manchester United have reignited interest in RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, and look at how their transfer window fell apart this summer. Why were they unable to seal the Jadon Sancho transfer, or how have they not located a viable alternative? As Isamaila Sarr nears a move to rivals Liverpool, the pressure is only growing on Ed Woodward and the club’s recruitment team. In the likelihood that Upamecano is unobtainable, we look at some alternatives – Ozan Kabak, Dan-Axel Zagadou, and most notably Villareal’s Pau Torres, who shone in La Liga last season.

We also discuss Barcelona’s pursuit of Sergiño Dest. Following the sale of Nelson Semedo to Premier League outfit Wolves, they now have funds to reinvest at right-back, and after failing to sign Norwich’s Max Aarons, the Ajax wonderkid could be on his way to the Camp Nou, with a late bid from Bayern Munich the only conceivable threat to Ronald Koeman landing his target. What will the teenage full-back bring to Barça as Lionel Messi and co. look to reassert themselves in La Liga and the Champions League?
