Iran Protest: Protesters attempted to block a bus reportedly carrying the Iran women's national football team as it departed a hotel on the Gold Coast on Tuesday.

The bus was seen leaving the Royal Pines Resort, where the team had been staying during the tournament. Local media later reported that the squad boarded a flight from Gold Coast Airport.

Earlier the same day, Australia granted humanitarian visas to five Iranian players after they reportedly sought asylum, citing fears of persecution if they returned to Iran.

The team had been competing in the AFC Women's Asian Cup but were eliminated from the tournament on Sunday after a 2–0 defeat to the Philippines women's national football team.
