How Solskjaer Could Set Up Man Utd Next Season taking a look at the Starting XI, Formation & Tactics! In today’s video we’re going to be taking a look at Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s potential Manchester United lineup for the 2020/21 Premier League season whilst suggesting a couple of transfers!

The 2019/20 campaign didn’t see the same tactical variety as the 2018/19 Premier League, with Solskjær favouring the 3-4-1-2 for the bigger games and the 4-2-3-1 week-to-week. So I expect this to continue with small tweaks to the current systems rather than broad changes. In goal, I think David de Gea will retain his starting spot but if he can’t improve on last season's form then Dean Henderson will be given a chance at the number 1 spot.
In terms of defence, last season’s signings of Aaron Wan-Bissaka & Harry Maguire performed excellently and massively improved United’s defensive ability. But to improve United could do with two additions. David Alaba would be perfect to compliment Maguire. His recovery pace and small stature would allow Maguire to become a stopper whilst Alaba swept up in behind, like he did for Bayern Munich on their way to their 6th Champions League. What’s more is Alaba is an excellent passer and would further improve United’s possession game, allowing the left back to operate higher up the pitch to be found by Alaba’s impressive passing. In terms of left back, despite Luke Shaw’s good form he’s struggled for fitness so competition or at least cover would be smart. Angers SCO’s Rayan Aït-Nouri is reportedly a target and I think he’d be a great addition. Not only does he compare well to United’s current crop of full backs in a defensive capacity but he outperforms most in an attacking sense. At 19, the young Frenchman would be an ideal addition to compete with Shaw for the starting spot and allow Brandon Williams to become a natural right back.
In terms of midfield, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes break Solskjær’s 4-2-3-1, as playing one deeper massively reduces their output. I’d love to see a switch to a flat 3 which would allow greater variety in United’s build up and attack. Tying these two together could be Nemanja Matic but a long term replacement is needed. An ideal candidate is Benfica’s Florentino Luis. The Portugeuse international could be phased in as Matic is phased out, only using the Serbian when necessary to get the best out of him. Florentino Luis’ excellent decision making and ball winning ability would compliment Pogba & Fernandes’ flair, allowing the youngster to regain possession and keep the ball moving but spotting progressive passes when necessary.
And finally we have to talk about the front 3. The 2019/20 campaign was a coming of age season for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial who enjoyed their best goalscoring seasons to date and alongside Mason Greenwood scored 62 goals in all competitions. As good as they’ve been Jadon Sancho would take it up a level. The Borussia Dortmund man would allow Rashford to return to a goalscoring role and would make a huge difference in those hard fought affairs. Allowing Greenwood to rotate in or be used alongside the starting trio if United were chasing the game.
But what do you guys think? How will Solskjær setup Manchester United in the 2020/21 season?
